Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows participants to directly express their beliefs about the outcome. Over time, prediction market prices tend to become more efficient as more information becomes available and trading volume increases. Discrepancies can arise from differing information access, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of both markets. It's common to see this market adjust rapidly to news or developments impacting the players.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price converges towards what the market collectively believes is the true probability. This creates a dynamic pricing system that reflects the aggregated knowledge and expectations of all participants, providing a unique perspective on the potential result of the Tuzhylin vs. Reznychenko match.
