Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Predict, often reflect a more accurate assessment of probabilities than traditional sportsbook odds. This is because prediction markets incentivize participants to express their true beliefs, while sportsbooks need to account for profit margins and potential biases. Sportsbooks may also be slower to incorporate new information, such as late injury reports or changes in team form. While sportsbooks and this market both aim to predict the same event, the mechanisms by which they arrive at odds are fundamentally different, leading to potential discrepancies. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks over time.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Predict can diverge due to several factors. Differences in user base, trading volume, and market-making activity all contribute to price discrepancies. Polymarket may attract a different type of trader than Predict, leading to varying interpretations of the same information. Furthermore, the liquidity of this market may be different on each platform, impacting price discovery. Even small differences in initial conditions or trading behavior can amplify over time, resulting in noticeable price variations between the two venues. The current volume of $9 shows the overall interest.
