Prediction market odds often differ from those found at traditional sportsbooks due to the wisdom of the crowd effect. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market reflects the collective intelligence of many individual traders. If a significant number of people believe a sportsbook is mispricing the probability of a particular outcome in the Troian vs. Karpenko match, they can express that belief by trading on Polymarket. This can lead to odds that diverge from, or converge towards, sportsbook offerings. It’s a fascinating comparison of different forecasting methods.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Troian vs. Karpenko match. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the latest information and collective opinion.
