Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a small number of professionals, while this market aggregates opinions from many individuals. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or risk assessments. It's common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information becomes available or as the event draws closer. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each exact score. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the likely result. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price discovery process is driven by supply and demand, with traders expressing their views through their trading activity, leading to a dynamically updated probability distribution for the final score.
