Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge for a number of reasons. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform has its own user base, trading fees, and liquidity, all of which can influence price discovery. Furthermore, differing opinions on the relative strength of the teams involved, or reactions to breaking news, can lead to discrepancies. The volume of trading on each platform also plays a role; higher volume generally leads to more efficient price discovery. Currently, the differing probabilities reflect varying levels of confidence in each outcome across the two platforms.
Several factors could influence the price of this market before resolution. Any news regarding injuries to key players on either the Towson Tigers or the Iowa Hawkeyes would likely cause significant movement. Changes in team performance leading up to the game, or adjustments to betting lines at traditional sportsbooks, could also impact trader sentiment. Unexpected announcements about coaching strategies or player availability could also shift probabilities. Monitoring sports news and analysis will be key to understanding potential catalysts for price changes in this market.
