Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to represent the true probability of an event occurring, though discrepancies can arise due to differing information or risk assessments. It’s common to see prediction markets, especially closer to the event, reflect sharper odds than those found at conventional sportsbooks, as traders actively correct mispricings.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. As more traders buy shares in a particular team scoring first, the price of those shares increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all participants, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the likely first goalscorer in the first half of the Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace match.

This market resolves around Oct 31, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will determine which team, Tottenham Hotspur or Crystal Palace, scores the first goal during the first half of the match. The result will be based on official match data and verified against credible public sources. The resolution process is designed to be objective and transparent, ensuring a fair and accurate outcome for all participants in this market.

Several factors could influence the price movement of this market. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Tottenham Hotspur or Crystal Palace would likely have a significant impact. Changes in team formations or tactical approaches announced before the match could also shift expectations. Furthermore, any significant shifts in public sentiment, perhaps driven by pre-match analysis or expert opinions, could influence trading activity on Polymarket. Finally, even the weather conditions on match day could play a role, potentially impacting the style of play and influencing the probability of a quick goal.
