Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, however, is driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aiming to accurately reflect the true probability of an event. While sportsbook odds might initially differ, they often converge with prediction market prices as the event approaches, as both attempt to forecast the same outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or biases among bettors and traders.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about whether Tottenham or Coventry will score first in the first half. As more shares are traded for one outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. The market dynamically adjusts to new information and changing opinions, providing a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each team scoring first.

This market resolves around Oct 19, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be determined by identifying which team, Tottenham Hotspur or Coventry City, scores the first goal during the first half of the match. The official match records will serve as the basis for verifying the result. Any goals scored during extra time or a penalty shootout will not be considered for the purposes of this market.

Several factors could influence trading activity in this market. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Tottenham or Coventry would likely cause significant shifts in the odds. Changes in team formations or tactical approaches announced before the match could also impact trader sentiment. Even weather conditions on match day, such as heavy rain or strong winds, might be factored into predictions. Finally, any significant pre-match analysis from reputable sports commentators or analysts could also move this market.
