Divergence Detected

Issue: Kalshi's market structure appears to treat either team winning as a 'Yes' outcome, while Polymarket designates a specific team as the resolution.Hero tip: Focus on Polymarket for a clearer winner-takes-all resolution. Avoid Kalshi due to its ambiguous 'either/or' structure.

Critical divergence points:

  • Polymarket: Resolves to the winning team (Golden Eagles or Buffaloes) or 50-50 for tie/cancellation. "If the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles win, the market will resolve to "Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles"."
  • Kalshi: Resolves to 'Yes' if either team wins. "If Orix Buffaloes wins...then the market resolves to Yes. If Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles wins...then the market resolves to Yes."

Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds, like those found in this market, often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while prediction markets allow traders to freely express their beliefs. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when public sentiment strongly deviates from expert opinion. However, both aim to accurately forecast the probability of an event, and both can be valuable tools for informed decision-making.

Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Differences in pricing between Polymarket and Kalshi can arise from several factors. These platforms have different user bases, trading volumes, and fee structures, all of which can influence price discovery. Additionally, the specific mechanisms for setting odds—such as order book dynamics on Polymarket versus a continuous probability market on Kalshi—can lead to temporary discrepancies. Market sentiment and information flow may also vary between the two platforms, causing differing perceptions of the likelihood of either the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles or the Orix Buffaloes winning the championship.
