Prediction market odds, like those found in this market, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the nature of how they are determined. Sportsbooks set odds based on their internal models and a margin for profit, while prediction markets are driven by the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. This can lead to more efficient price discovery, especially when there's a significant amount of volume. However, sportsbooks may offer different types of bets or cater to a different audience, resulting in discrepancies.
Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi for this market can diverge due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform has its own user base, trading fees, and liquidity, which can influence price discovery. Differences in the types of traders participating – for example, more sophisticated or casual bettors on each – can also contribute to price discrepancies. Furthermore, the way each platform handles margin requirements or allows for different order types can impact how prices are set. These variations mean that even for the same underlying event, the probabilities expressed on each platform may not always align.
