Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to profit by balancing action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, potentially offering value to informed traders. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise when analyzing this market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each team winning. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts accordingly. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or a central authority setting the odds. The current volume is $0.
