Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of informed traders, and can sometimes diverge from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market is driven purely by participants’ beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a team, they can drive the price on Kalshi in the opposite direction. However, it’s common to see convergence as the event approaches, with both sets of odds aligning based on new information and public sentiment.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell contracts representing each possible outcome – in this case, Alabama winning the second quarter or Texas A&M winning the second quarter. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that outcome, as perceived by the market participants. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the evolving consensus. The closer we get to the event, the more the prices will likely reflect the actual expected outcome, influenced by factors like injuries and late-breaking news.
