Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance their risk, while this market’s odds are driven by traders directly expressing their beliefs about the likelihood of each team scoring first. Differences can arise due to varying levels of information, biases, or simply differing opinions among bettors and prediction market participants. It’s common to see prediction markets more accurately forecast probabilities, especially as the event approaches and more information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the likelihood of either Telstar or Almere City FC scoring first. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s depth and liquidity influence how efficiently the price incorporates new information and reflects the true probability of the event.
