Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Kalshi, often reflect a 'wisdom of the crowd' that can differ from traditional sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while prediction markets allow anyone to trade and express their beliefs. This can lead to prediction markets incorporating information not immediately factored into sportsbook odds, such as inside knowledge or nuanced understanding of team dynamics. However, arbitrage opportunities can arise, causing the odds to converge as traders exploit discrepancies between the two.
