Prediction market odds often offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to make accurate predictions. Often, prediction markets can incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, especially regarding factors not easily quantifiable. Discrepancies between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook odds can present potential opportunities for informed traders, though it's important to consider the differing motivations and information sources behind each.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing system ensures that the market odds reflect the most up-to-date collective intelligence of the traders involved.
