Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a 'wisdom of the crowd' perspective, potentially differing from initial sportsbook lines which can be influenced by factors like public bias or sharp action. Sportsbooks set lines to balance betting action, while this market reflects what traders believe will actually happen. It’s common to see this market adjust more rapidly to new information, such as injury reports or changing weather conditions, than traditional sportsbook odds. However, both aim to accurately predict the outcome of the event.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of a 'yes' outcome. The price of a contract ranges from 0 to 100, representing a percentage chance. As more traders buy contracts, the price increases, indicating growing confidence in that outcome. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective beliefs of all participants, constantly updating as new information becomes available and traders adjust their positions. This dynamic pricing mechanism aims to provide a real-time assessment of the event's likelihood.
