Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge for several reasons. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform has its own user base, trading rules, and liquidity levels, which can influence price discovery. For example, Polymarket might attract more sophisticated traders with specific expertise in basketball, leading to different valuations than those seen on Kalshi. Additionally, differing trading fees and market-making incentives can contribute to price discrepancies. The volume of trading on each platform also plays a role; higher volume generally leads to more efficient price discovery and tighter spreads.
