Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a more accurate forecast of events than traditional sportsbook odds, as they aggregate the wisdom of the crowd. However, sportsbook odds are established by professional oddsmakers who incorporate various factors, including expert analysis and perceived biases. For this market, it's possible to see differences emerge due to varying information access and differing perspectives on the players' strengths and weaknesses. It's useful to compare the implied probabilities from both sources to identify potential discrepancies and inform your own assessment of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe in a particular outcome, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will rise. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of those actively trading it, providing a real-time assessment of the event's potential results.
