Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting patterns and risk management into their pricing, while this market relies on individuals directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a particular result. It’s common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information becomes available or as the event draws nearer.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a specific outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing system.
