Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market is driven purely by individuals wagering their own capital. This can lead to discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. It’s common to see this market move independently of sportsbook lines, potentially offering value for informed traders who identify mispricings. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise in evaluating the perceived probabilities of different outcomes.
On Opinion, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the collective belief of the traders about the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and place orders, the prices adjust to reflect the changing consensus. On Opinion, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The platform uses a standard market-making algorithm to ensure liquidity and facilitate trading, allowing participants to express their views on the game's outcome.
