Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the wisdom of the crowd. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, they can express that view through trading activity on Polymarket. This can lead to price differences, potentially offering value to those who identify discrepancies between the two. It’s a way to gauge public sentiment and compare it to professional analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants, creating a constantly updated forecast for the Michalski vs Holmgren match.
