Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event. It's common to see prediction markets move more quickly to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, potentially offering a more up-to-date assessment of the likely result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for one outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions are correct. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most current collective intelligence.
