Generally, prediction market odds can offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to reflect the true probability as determined by traders. However, it’s not uncommon to see discrepancies, especially early on. This market, like others, may initially show differences from sportsbook lines, but as more information becomes available and trading volume increases, the odds tend to converge. It’s valuable to compare both to gain a more comprehensive understanding of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective wisdom of the crowd. The current implied probability of the top outcome is 100.0%.
