Prediction market odds often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the nature of how each is determined. Sportsbooks set lines based on internal models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. In contrast, this market’s odds are driven by supply and demand – traders directly betting on the outcome. This can lead to more accurate probabilities, as the crowd’s collective intelligence is harnessed. However, differences can still arise due to varying levels of information and market participation. Prediction markets also tend to have lower liquidity than established sportsbooks.
Polymarket and Limitless can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Price discrepancies between Polymarket and Limitless can occur due to variations in trader demographics, liquidity, and market-specific rules. Polymarket may attract a different class of traders than Limitless, leading to differing opinions reflected in the prices. Furthermore, the volume of trading on each platform influences price discovery; lower volume can result in greater price volatility. These factors combined create distinct market dynamics, even when tracking the same underlying event. It's common to see differing probabilities, even for the same outcome, across these prediction markets.
