Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for a profit margin, whereas this market is driven by traders directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than traditional bookmakers.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand for these shares, with no external factors influencing the valuation.

This market resolves around Oct 10, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will determine which team scores the first goal in the second half of the Sunderland AFC versus Brighton & Hove Albion FC match. The result will be based on official match data and verified against credible public sources. The platform will then distribute payouts to traders holding shares in the winning outcome.

Several factors could influence the price of this market before resolution. Any news regarding team injuries, particularly to key attacking players for either Sunderland or Brighton, could significantly shift the odds. Tactical changes announced by either manager, such as a shift in formation or starting lineup, could also impact trader sentiment. Even weather conditions on match day, like heavy rain or strong winds, might be considered by traders when assessing the likelihood of a quick goal in the second half. Unexpected pre-match events could also cause movement.
