Often, prediction market odds can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. This is because prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd, representing a broader range of opinions and information than a sportsbook's oddsmakers might consider. While sportsbooks set lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market reflects the collective beliefs of participants who have a financial stake in the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event's probabilities. It’s common to find this market offering a different perspective than conventional betting options.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, indicating growing confidence. Conversely, increased selling pressure drives the price down. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds continuously adapt to new information and changing sentiment surrounding the Sukovatyi vs. Pohonov match.
