Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, they can express that view through their trades, potentially driving the prediction market odds in a different direction. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a large amount of trading occurs, as this market forms its own independent assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust to reflect the collective prediction. The current price indicates what the market believes is the fair probability of a particular result in the Storozhenko vs. Pytsko match, based on available information and trader sentiment.
