Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the collective wisdom of traders and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action, while this market is driven by individuals putting their capital at risk based on their own analysis. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. However, it’s important to note that sportsbooks and prediction markets both aim to accurately forecast the outcome, and their odds often converge as the event approaches.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular team, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and trader sentiment regarding which team will score first.

This market resolves around Oct 24, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on which team scores the first goal in the Stoke City versus Bristol City match. The official match records will serve as the basis for determining the winning outcome. It is important to note that any goals scored during extra time or penalty shootouts will not be considered for the purposes of this market’s resolution.

Several factors could influence the price movement of this market. Late-breaking news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Stoke City or Bristol City would likely have a significant impact. Changes in team form, tactical adjustments announced by the managers, or even weather conditions on match day could all shift trader sentiment. Unexpected news related to team morale or internal conflicts could also play a role, as could any significant shifts in public perception of each team’s chances of winning the match.
