Prediction market odds often differ from those found at sportsbooks, reflecting the wisdom of the crowd versus the assessments of professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks set initial lines to balance action, while this market’s prices are driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. Generally, prediction markets tend to be more accurate than traditional polls or expert opinions, as traders have a financial incentive to be correct. However, sportsbook odds can still offer a useful point of comparison when evaluating the potential value in this market.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of a contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to incorporate new information and changing sentiment. The current price is determined entirely by supply and demand, with traders expressing their views through their buy and sell orders. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of those participating.
