Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which can be influenced by factors like house bias or promotional offers. Sportsbooks may also adjust their odds more slowly to news or information than traders on Polymarket. It's common to see discrepancies, especially when significant information breaks that hasn't yet been fully incorporated into traditional betting lines. Analyzing these differences can offer insights into where the crowd believes there's value, compared to professional oddsmakers.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible exact score. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective forecast. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price movements are driven by supply and demand; if many traders believe a particular score is likely, they will buy shares, driving up the price and the implied probability.
