Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can often differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, incorporating factors like team statistics and expert opinions. This market, however, allows individuals to trade on their own beliefs, potentially leading to odds that diverge from those offered by sportsbooks, especially as new information emerges. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to breaking news or shifts in public perception than traditional betting venues.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived chance of success. Conversely, increased selling pressure drives the price down. This dynamic creates a constantly updating forecast of the event’s likely result, driven entirely by trader activity.

This market resolves around Oct 17, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The result will be determined by the official result of the St Kilda Saints versus Collingwood Magpies AFL match. The platform will then verify the outcome against publicly available and trusted sources to determine which shares will pay out. Traders holding shares in the winning team will receive a payout, while those holding shares in the losing team will not.

Several factors could significantly impact this market before the match concludes. Any news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either the St Kilda Saints or the Collingwood Magpies would likely cause a shift in the odds. Changes in team form, weather forecasts for the match day, or even significant public endorsements could also influence trader sentiment. Unexpected announcements about coaching strategies or team lineups could also lead to notable price movements in this market, as traders adjust their predictions based on the latest information.
