Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, and may be influenced by marketing or promotional considerations. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders on Polymarket, reflects what participants believe is the true probability of each outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market evolves continuously as new information and opinions emerge, potentially offering a more accurate forecast.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in different outcomes. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not directly influenced by external factors or pre-defined formulas. It’s a dynamic representation of collective prediction.
