Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by the collective predictions of traders. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when there's a lot of uncertainty. Often, prediction markets are considered more accurate than traditional polls, as traders have 'skin in the game' and are incentivized to make informed predictions. However, sportsbook odds are readily available and provide a useful benchmark for comparison.

On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing their beliefs about the outcome of the first half. The price of a contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy contracts for a particular team, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability of that team winning. Conversely, selling contracts drives the price down. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities in real-time, providing a forward-looking assessment of the game's potential first-half result.

This market resolves around Oct 4, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will settle based on which team is leading at the end of the first half of the South Dakota State versus Illinois State college football game. The official game results will be used to determine the winning team and finalize the market's outcome. Traders will be able to claim their winnings or fulfill their obligations based on the final result.

Several factors could influence this market before it resolves. Any news regarding key player injuries for either South Dakota State or Illinois State would likely cause significant movement. Changes in weather forecasts, particularly if they suggest adverse conditions, could also impact the odds. Furthermore, significant betting activity – a large influx of volume on one side – could shift the market’s perception. Finally, any pre-game analysis from respected college football analysts that strongly favors one team over the other could also move this market.
