Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, which may be influenced by factors like public perception or house bias. This market, however, allows anyone to trade and express their opinion, potentially leading to odds that more accurately reflect the true probability of an outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment among traders.
