Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often incorporating information and analysis beyond what’s readily available to traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on team statistics and expert opinions, this market allows participants to adjust those probabilities based on real-time information and their own insights. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions on factors like player form, tactical approaches, or even weather conditions, potentially offering value to informed traders. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price converges towards what the collective market believes is the fair probability. The more shares purchased for a team to score first, the higher the price, and the lower the implied probability of the other team scoring first. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment.

Changes in team form, such as a surprising win or loss in a recent match, could also influence trader sentiment. Tactical announcements from the managers, particularly regarding starting lineups and attacking strategies, could also move the market. Finally, even weather conditions on match day could play a role, potentially favoring one team's style of play over the other.
