Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the players’ form and potential. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, though it's important to remember they represent different types of forecasts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a growing expectation of that result. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic process ensures the market price reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants.
