Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome, leading to potentially more efficient pricing. While sportsbooks may initially have an edge due to faster updates, prediction markets can often converge on a more accurate probability as more information becomes available and traders refine their assessments. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before the event gains wider attention.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and reflects their collective assessment of the likelihood of each player winning the Simek vs. Svitac match. The current price provides a real-time gauge of market sentiment.
