Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market relies on the aggregated predictions of individuals. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. These differences can arise from varying levels of information, biases, or simply differing interpretations of the same data. Comparing the two can provide a more comprehensive view of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market’s assessment of the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the evolving consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The total volume traded influences the liquidity and price discovery process, making it easier to enter and exit positions. The market’s efficiency depends on the number of active traders and the availability of information.
