Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when there’s significant public interest or disagreement about the likely outcome. These differences can arise from varying information sources, biases, or simply differing interpretations of the same data. Examining both can offer a more comprehensive view of the potential results.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand; there are no external factors influencing the pricing on Polymarket. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event’s likelihood.
