Typically, prediction market odds reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, often incorporating information not immediately available to traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market allows for real-time adjustments based on new information and changing sentiment. It’s common to see differences emerge as the event approaches, with prediction markets sometimes offering more accurate probabilities than traditional odds, especially when significant, non-quantifiable factors are at play. Analyzing these differences can be a valuable exercise for informed bettors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now.
