Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event occurring, as determined by traders. This market may show differences in implied probabilities compared to sportsbook offerings, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster than sportsbooks in response to breaking news or late-stage developments. Analyzing these differences can be a valuable exercise for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price converges towards what the market believes is the true probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, reflecting the aggregated predictions of its users. The current price reflects the collective assessment of the likelihood of a specific result in the Pavlovic vs Simakin match.
