Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a margin for profit, while this market allows traders to express their own beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to note that prediction market odds are dynamic and change based on trading activity, potentially converging with or diverging from sportsbook lines over time.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders believe Kyrian Jacquet will win, the price of shares representing his victory will increase, and vice versa for Rei Sakamoto. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
