Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to continuously update their beliefs based on new information. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that the market perceives a different probability of an outcome than sportsbooks do, or that one venue has access to information the other doesn't. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform traditional odds, especially as the event approaches and more information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of each share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust its predictions accordingly. The current price reflects the collective assessment of all participants trading on Polymarket.
