Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their independent assessments. It’s common to see this market converge toward what many believe is the ‘true’ probability as more information surfaces and trading volume increases. However, discrepancies can persist due to differing information access or risk appetites among participants in each venue.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the collective market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts to reflect the latest consensus. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to changing conditions and provides a valuable signal of expected results.

Several factors could influence trading activity in this market. Any news regarding player form, injuries, or changes in playing conditions could shift expectations. Updates on weather forecasts in Shanghai, or reports about the players’ recent performance in practice sessions, could also impact the odds. Unexpected upsets in other matches within the tournament might also lead traders to reassess their predictions, causing the market to react accordingly. Increased media attention or expert analysis could also contribute to price movements.
