Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and may incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their own beliefs about the probability of each outcome. If a significant difference emerges, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to note that these odds are dynamic and can shift as new information becomes available and more traders participate.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of Arribage/Olivetti winning. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means the price reflects the collective intelligence of the traders on Polymarket, and can move rapidly based on news or perceived advantages for either team. Currently, the market indicates a certain level of confidence in one outcome over the other, as reflected in the share prices.
