Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess the probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, with this market sometimes showing probabilities that diverge from sportsbook lines, especially as new information emerges. It's common to see prediction markets react more quickly to breaking news or shifts in expert opinion, potentially offering a more refined estimate of the likely outcome compared to initial sportsbook offerings. Examining both can provide a well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Ruud vs Auger-Aliassime match. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a 'yes' share (Ruud wins) and a 'no' share (Auger-Aliassime wins) constantly adjusts based on supply and demand, creating a dynamic representation of collective prediction. This means the odds aren't set by a bookmaker, but rather by the aggregated beliefs of all participants.
