Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets allow traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities, with prediction markets sometimes offering more accurate forecasts, especially as an event approaches. However, it’s important to note that both sources are influenced by public perception and available information, and discrepancies can occur based on differing analyses.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated and responsive to changes in sentiment and expectations surrounding the Shelton vs. Gea match.
