Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess the probability of an outcome. If a large number of traders believe a team is more likely to score first than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will shift accordingly. This can create opportunities for arbitrage or simply a more accurate representation of the event’s likelihood, based on collective intelligence.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether Servette or Sion will score first. As more shares are purchased for one team, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven entirely by supply and demand within the market, and represent the aggregated predictions of all participants. This dynamic pricing allows for a real-time assessment of expectations as new information becomes available.

This market resolves around Oct 10, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will determine which team, Servette Geneva or FC Sion, scores the first goal in the match. The result will be based on official match data, and the market will settle to 100% for the team that scores first, and 0% for the other. Any delays or postponements of the match may affect the resolution timeline, but the outcome will always be determined by the official result.

Several factors could influence trading activity and shift the odds in this market. Late-breaking news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Servette or Sion would likely have a significant impact. Changes in team form based on recent match results, or even weather conditions on match day, could also affect trader sentiment. Unexpected announcements related to team tactics or starting lineups could also move the market. Any information that alters the perceived probability of either team scoring first has the potential to influence trading volume and price fluctuations.
