Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market aggregates the collective intelligence of many individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when there’s significant public interest or disagreement about the likely outcome. If a large number of people believe something will happen that sportsbooks haven't fully accounted for, the odds here can shift independently. Comparing the two can reveal where the crowd diverges from professional oddsmakers.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome.
