Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability as perceived by traders. As a result, this market may offer different probabilities than those available at sportsbooks, potentially providing an edge for informed bettors. It’s common to see prediction markets react quickly to new information, sometimes before it's fully priced into sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective wisdom of the crowd, adjusting in real-time as new information becomes available.
