Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines based on their analysis, aiming to balance action on both sides, while this market’s odds are driven by traders directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a larger and more diverse pool of participants contributing to this market. Analyzing these differences can sometimes reveal opportunities for value betting, but remember past performance doesn't guarantee future results.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets.
